The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday initiated a campaign to remove political banners and flags installed in anticipation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s swearing-in ceremony. During this drive, the BMC successfully removed 1,963 banners and flags throughout the city.
At 766, the highest number of banners and flags were removed from A ward, which is home to Azad Maidan, the venue for the oath-taking ceremony.
Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony on Thursday, a multitude of political banners and flags have appeared throughout the city, particularly around Azad Maidan in Ward A. This raised concerns among citizens who find the displays to be an eyesore. Many people have expressed worries about the large, unauthorised banners obstructing traffic signs and blocking footpaths in various locations.

With the illegal banners drawing flak from citizens, civic chief Bhushan Gagrani and the Additional Municipal Commissioner (city) Ashwini Joshi on Saturday directed officials to conduct a clean-up drive by removing such posters and banners across the city
Following the orders, the BMC jumped into action and removed 912 flags, 583 political banners, and posters. Meanwhile, the ward staffers also extracted 443 religious and social banners.

After the A ward, the next highest number of banners (140) removed was in the S ward (Bhandup). This was followed by the G/North ward (Dadar, Matunga, Mahim), where 106 objects were removed. Furthermore, during the drive, the BMC also removed 15 unauthorised commercial banners.
